At Turning Heads, we love to showcase and collaborate with others, including LexieCooks.com.

Lexie’s 18 and lives in Devon, she’s very interested in food, cooking and eating!

She’s studying hospitality and catering at college and would like to run her own cafe – and fill it with music, eventually!

Lexie’s recipes can be found on her website https://www.lexiecooks.com/, her friends and family have shared their favorite family recipes and she’s tried them out and simplified the instructions so they are quick and easy to follow.

Turning Heads has been awarded a grant from Comic Relief Community Fund

Turning Heads have been awarded a £4000 grant from the Comic Relief Community Fund (England).

The project involves working with families who have children under 5 teaching them to cook healthy food on a budget that promotes health and wellbeing.
We are aiming to help parents who might lack the basic skills or confidence to provide healthy nutritious and cost-effective food for their young family.
Turning Heads have been developing resources and a way of working that helps to develop cooking skills, spread a healthy and nutritious message in a non-threatening inclusive way. It will help to bring together these young families, promote a cohesive way of working, moving forward and seeking to change the life-chances of their young families.

The Comic Relief Community Fund (England) invests in grassroots community-led organisations to bring about lasting change and legacy through projects that support Comic Relief’s themes: Children Survive & Thrive; Fighting for Gender Justice; A Safe Place to Be; and Mental Health Matters.

Grants of up to £4,000 are available to strengthen local organisations to give with skills and advice to drive community projects forward, as well as providing the necessary funding and support that groups need to kick-start new initiatives.

The Comic Relief Community Fund (England) is administered by the national community charity, Groundwork.

Graham Duxbury, national CEO of Groundwork, said:

“Comic Relief Community Fund (England) contributes funds to community projects being delivered by grassroots organisations and we’re delighted to support this project. The diversity of projects that are being funded shows that local communities have a passion to create something great in their area.”

IBCF – Community Cooking at the Windmill Centre

Below are some photos from our face to face session at the Windmill Centre in conjunction with SPACE. 30 participants took place in cooking healthy dishes, learning new skills and catching up after a long period of isolation and online cooking! All people involved followed Covid-19 safety guidelines and groups were based on support bubbles, social distancing was maintained and everyone adhered to strict hygiene measures.

The plan was to hold all of our IBCF sessions face-to-face at the Windmill Centre, however due to Covid 19, these will now move to home-cooking, which we will call “Recipe Boxes”.

Thank you to everyone who took part and the help from Amelie and Chris – excellent staff volunteers!’
