An award-winning local Torbay business was invited to 11 Downing Street recently, at a special reception hosted by the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, to recognise the contribution of the UK’s 5.45 million small businesses to the country’s economy, society and communities.
Alan Tilley of Turning Heads attended the special event which brought together recent winners and finalists of The Small Awards. This annual awards showcase is organised by Small Business Britain and celebrates the UK’s ‘smallest and greatest’ businesses.
Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said: “It’s fantastic to celebrate the success of some of the UK’s brightest and best small businesses who play a vital role in driving growth, supporting jobs and keeping our high streets and communities thriving.
“We’re backing our small businesses by tackling issues like late payments and announcing £6.6bn of new capital for the British Business Bank to help SMEs expand, create new jobs, and boost their competitiveness internationally”.
The event featured an array of over 40 small businesses, from micro-businesses and family businesses, to start-ups and high street heroes.
Turning Heads was shortlisted for The Heart of Gold Award which recognises the small businesses that have a special impact on their local community, and by working with other small businesses, local charities, schools, local councils, or their local residents that have achieved great things.
“Small businesses are the heart and soul of their communities and contribute massively to the UK economy,” said Michelle Ovens CBE, Founder of Small Business Britain.
