Presentation Evening

On Friday 30th June we held a presentation evening at The Palace Theatre in Paignton celebrating the amazing achievements our clients and what they have accomplished over the last two years, since attending the vast opportunities that Turning Heads offer.

Over 100 people attended the event with the evening starting with a with a short presentation from the CEO, Alan Tilley, fantastic singing by Olivia and then a prize draw and a large number of well-deserved celebratory certificates and gifts.

Special awards went to Chris and Joe who work so hard and have made such huge personal progress and achievement throughout the year.

Turning Heads works with a whole spectrum of individuals and families and the dedication and enthusiasm of the staff make all of this possible. Role on the next 12 months!

Thank you

A letter from our Chief Executive

Hello.

We are Turning Heads, a community interest company aimed at providing
meals for people and families who are struggling. We already run a
social supermarket in Plainmoor and a budget meal delivery service.

This summer we have partnered with FACT and The Torbay Food Alliance to
put together family meals, supporting people in receipt of Free School
Meals or who might be struggling this summer with the rising cost of
living.

We also aim to provide delicious hot lunches to any family during the
Summer months and we would really appreciate any contributions towards
facilitating this please.

Please contact us directly or follow the GoFundMe link to donate.

Thank You

Alan Tilley

Say Hello to Emily

We are really pleased to welcome Emily to Turning Heads this week. Emily is doing a student secondment internship through the University of Exeter and this week is looking at producing an impact statement for us. She is completing a 360 degree look at everything we do, interviewing clients, staff, volunteers and families with a view of producing a detailed document of what we are doing, the impact it is making and areas that we can look to improve upon. The secondment is part of the University’s pathway to charity and development and we hope that this can be the start of closer links to research and development.

Volunteering at Turning Heads

Last week Rahim Nazarali & Jason Smith spent the day volunteering with Turning Heads, one of our Sustainable Communities partners based in Torquay.

Rahim supported in the Community Kitchen which sees Turning Heads staff, volunteers and trainees producing pre-prepared recipe menus for people to purchase and cook at home, whilst following menu guidelines and cookery videos. Jason helped paint and remove graffiti from the alleyway that leads up to the Social Supermarket. They both finished the day by delivering some recipe bags to local families.

“It was amazing opportunity for us to be a part of this amazing project and what they do in the community.” Rahim Nazarali.

“Whilst I was outside for most of it painting a wall it was great to have a tangible result at the end of the session and I loved engaging with the people coming and going to the venue. A really great project that I was unaware of until today and shows the impact this positive scheme can have on a community” Jason Smith.

Inspiring Businesses in Torbay

This week, some of the staff attended an evening celebrating inspiring businesses in Torbay.

We were pleased to be nominated as a finalist in the Commissioner’s Business Community Champion Award category. This is the second year that we have been nominated and is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of all the staff, volunteers and clients who are involved with everything we are doing at Turning Heads.

Easter HAF 2023 – Forest Schools

This Easter, we ran a forest schools HAF project which engaged a total of 26 children during the holidays. We ran sessions in den building, fire cooking, forest arts, wildlife bug hunting, tree craft, slingshot making and much more. The weather could have been a bit better but the rain did not dampen the enthusiasm and fun had by all. Huge thank you to the great staff who ran this and also to the parent helpers.
